  • Ask Doctor Steven Gunn

    You are welcome to ask Dr Gunn any questions pertaining to health, wellness or mental and physical performance in relation to corporate or personal matters.

    See questions and answers (Q&A) below:

    Question 1:
    How long are you meant to live?

    Myth:
    Everyone is destined to live only for a certain number of years, the average expectancy life span is 75-85 years, therefore accepted it!

    Fact:
    According to medical antiaging experts the average attainable human life span is 120-180 years.  If you want to live less, adopt an unhealthy, risk taking lifestyle, devoid of social interaction aaproach life with a negative mindset.

    Question 2:
    Can you stop the aging process seeing that it is genetically determined?

    Myth:
    Your life span is predominantly determined by your genetic inheritance or fate, there is nothing you can do to increase your life span or retard the aging process.

    Fact:
    Although your genetic inheritance plays an important role with respect to your mental and physical health and longevity, the opposite is also true.  In other words, you can overcome many negative genetics predispositions, such as a family history of heart attacks, strokes, obesity, osteoporosis and type II diabetes, by eating healthily, taking optimal nutritional supplements, exercising, avoiding toxins, managing stress, going for regular medical check ups and preventative medicine.  Some Supernutrients, anti-aging oxidants and certain hormones are currently available and new compounds undergoing research, which can prevent free radical oxidative damage, top up flagging levels of essential anti-aging hormones and beneficially alter cellular biochemical metabolic pathways.

    Question 3:
    Which factors or biochemical processes are primarily responsible for the ageing process and diseases like cancer?

    Answer:
    Apart from genetically inherited factors, the most important enviromental and cellular factors are:
    • DNA genetic material damage by toxins or radiation resulting in mutations;
    • Faulty genes;
    • Defective DNA and genetic material repair process;
    • > Specific nutrient deficiencies;
    • Excess free radical oxidative damage and defective methylation chemistry;
    • > UV damage to the skin and tissues;
    • Dehydration;
    • Disruption of intercellular communication;
    • Defective toxin neutralization and waste removal;
    • Compromised psychoneuro-immunological-endocrinological system;
    • > Immobilization (lack of exercise).
